Kerala Sahitya Akademi president K Satchidanandan has announced he may gradually step away from public life due to health concerns. In a recent Facebook post, he shared that he has been battling Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) for several years, which has led to memory loss and other symptoms.
Satchidanandan explained that he was diagnosed with TGA around seven years ago and has been managing the condition with medication. Although his symptoms had improved at times, the stress of daily life has caused a resurgence of memory problems, along with symptoms like trembling hands and legs.
To focus on his recovery, he has decided to stay away from public events. He requested that cultural organizations and individuals in Kerala understand if he cannot attend events he is invited to. However, he emphasized that poetry is his life’s passion and assured that he would continue to participate in poetry-related events. Satchidanandan also pledged to fulfill his duties as Kerala Sahitya Akademi president for the remainder of his term.
Born in Pulloot, Satchidanandan is renowned as a pioneer of modern Malayalam poetry and a follower of leftist ideologies. He also serves as the director of the Kerala Literary Festival. As a literary critic and translator, he has contributed significantly to bringing Malayalam literature to an international audience.
