The Yahara Journal will host a poetry reading with author Matt Hart on Nov. 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. Hart, the author of five poetry books, teaches at the Cincinnati Art Academy. This will be his first reading at Madison College.

The event was organized by Matt Guenette, a creative writing instructor at Madison College. Guenette speaks highly of Hart’s work.

“His poems are not just about himself; they’re about seeing. They show how we are small parts of a larger, interconnected world that’s hard to understand,” Guenette said.

Hart, who has performed as a singer in several bands, brings a unique performative style to his readings. He grew up with a preacher father, and that rhythmic influence is reflected in his poetry, blending with a punk energy.

“Matt’s poems are spontaneous and raw. There’s no pretense. They feel alive, and that’s the effect he aims for,” Guenette added.

Attending a Matt Hart reading offers a powerful experience that can change your view of poetry. Even if you’re not a fan of the art, this event may inspire new appreciation. Join the event at the Studio Theatre on Nov. 14 for a fresh perspective on life.
