Kansas Poet Laureate Traci Brimhall Encourages “Dear Kansas” Letter-Poem Challenge

Traci Brimhall

Kansas Poet Laureate Traci Brimhall is featured this week on KPR Presents, discussing poetry and her latest book Love Prodigal. Brimhall also invites listeners to participate in a creative challenge: write and submit a “Dear Kansas” letter-poem in celebration of Kansas Day.

Brimhall’s instructions for the challenge are simple. Take a walk and notice five things around you using your senses (taste is optional!). Then, use those observations to write a letter to “Dear Kansas.” The submitted letter-poems will be shared with Kansas Public Radio, and some may even be read on air.

You can tune into KPR Presents at the following times:

KPR1: Sundays at 6 p.m., Saturdays at 6 a.m.

KPR2: Sundays at 1 p.m., Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Submit your “Dear Kansas” letter-poem for a chance to have it read on air!
