The Guilford Poets Guild is excited to kick off its fall Second Thursday Poetry Series on September 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Guilford Public Library.
Former Connecticut Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson (2019-2022) will be the featured guest, sharing her poetry with the audience. The evening will start with an Open Mic session for aspiring poets, followed by a reading by Gibson.
Gibson, who has published 14 poetry books with LSU Press, is known for her recent work, Draw Me Without Boundaries. Her previous trilogy includes Broken Cup, Not Hearing the Wood Thrush, and The Glass Globe, which won the Connecticut Poetry Award. Her accolades also include the Lamont Selection, the Melville Kane Award, and the Connecticut Book Award (twice). In 1993, she was a finalist for the National Book Award and in 2016 for the Poets’ Prize. Gibson also edited the anthology Waking Up to the Earth: Connecticut Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis, with a grant from the Academy of American Poets. She resides in Preston, CT, where her poetry often reflects the natural world, including ponds, cedar trees, and local wildlife.
