Death Anniversary of Renowned Poet Noon Meem Rashid Observed

The forty-ninth death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet Nazar Muhammad Rashid, popularly known as Noon Meem Rashid, was commemorated on Wednesday.

Rashid was born on August 1, 1910, in Alipur Chattha, District Gujranwala. He earned a master’s degree in economics from Government College Lahore. As a key figure in modern Urdu poetry, he is recognized alongside Miraji as a pioneer of modernism and free verse.

His first poetry collection, Mawra, was published in 1941. Rashid’s notable works also include Iran Main Ajnabi (A Stranger in Iran) from 1951, La-Insaan (Nothingness = Man) published in 1969, and Gumaan ka Mumkin (Speculations), which was released posthumously in 1976.
