International Voices Event

Taconic Music and the Manchester Community Library will present their third International Voices event on October 13 at 2 p.m. The event will take place at the library located at 138 Cemetery Ave., Manchester Center.

The event will showcase members of Southern Vermont’s international community, who will share their personal journeys to the United States. Carol Berry from Switzerland, Carolina Ellenbogen from Venezuela, and Christina Yuengling from Sweden will read poems in their native languages, accompanied by English translations.

Each poem will be paired with special music reflecting the culture of the poets‘ countries. The Taconic Chamber Players will perform arrangements of traditional melodies and classical pieces. The ensemble includes violinists Joana Genova and Heather Braun, violists Ariel Rudiakov and Rosemary Nelis, and cellist Nathaniel Parke.

The concert will also feature two special guests: Nordic Harmoni, a Scandinavian-American chorus from Southern Vermont, and young composer Kian Ravaei. Ravaei, who is pursuing a doctoral degree at the Juilliard School, blends Iranian classical music with Western classical elements in his compositions.

This program is supported in part by Vermont Humanities. Admission is free.
