Lake Angela

Lake Angela of Warrington Township has been named the 2024 Bucks County Poet Laureate. The announcement was made by Dr. Ethel Rackin, director of the Poet Laureate program and a professor at Bucks County Community College.

Angela was selected from over 50 entries in the 48th annual contest, which is supported by the Bucks County Commissioners. She is a published poet, translator, and dance choreographer.

Angela holds a PhD in intersemiotic translation and is recognized as a medieval mystic. Her poems have appeared in various publications, including Seneca Review, BODY, The Common, Passages North, and Poetry Salzburg Review. Her books include Organblooms, Words for the Dead, and Scivias Choreomaniae. She also directs the poetry-dance group Companyia Lake Angela and focuses on exchanging multimedia dialogues with artists advocating for disabilities. Her work aims to highlight the creative potential of schizophrenia-spectrum associative thinking.

Living in Warrington, Angela collaborates with poet Sara Ries Dziekonski as Poetry Midwives, part of the nonprofit organization Keep St. Pete Lit, which supports writers worldwide. She invites others to explore her work at lakeangeladance.com. Angela also works with her spouse, writer and multimedia artist Kevin Richard Kaiser, and their child, Quixot, who composes atonal music for their performance projects.

Judges for this year’s competition included Philadelphia poet Thomas Devaney and Kasey Jueds from Catskills, New York. They noted the strong quality of this year’s entries.

Angela will read her poetry on Saturday, November 16, at 1 PM in room 142 of the historic Tyler Hall on the Newtown Campus. She will share the stage with 2023 Laureate Tara Tamburello and three runners-up: Robbin Farr, Madeline Marriott, and Judith Adams Lagana. Thomas Devaney will also participate in the reading.

The Bucks County Poet Laureate program is the longest-running such initiative in Pennsylvania and contributes to the cultural heritage of the region through Bucks County Community College.
