Acting Senate Chairman Syedaal Khan emphasized Pakistan’s rich cultural and literary heritage on Sunday. He noted that the region has been home to many celebrated Sufi saints, scholars, and intellectuals for centuries.
Khan spoke at the Shah Latif Festival, which was supported by the Sindhi Language Authority and Sindh’s Department of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities. He stressed the need to actively promote literature, culture, and civilization. The festival aimed to introduce young people to the poetry of the renowned Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. It served as a platform for children from various linguistic backgrounds to engage with Bhittai’s poetry and message.
In his inaugural speech, Khan explained that the festival sought not only to familiarize the younger generation with Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s philosophy and Sufi thought but also to foster a sense of peace, security, and true Islamic values among the youth. He commended the festival’s diverse activities, including speeches, theater performances, art exhibitions, and other creative expressions, which allowed students to explore Bhittai’s message and cultural legacy.
Khan highlighted the need to nurture peace and a balanced mindset in young people, referring to them as the “valuable asset” of any nation. He pointed out that with proper education and training, the youth could significantly contribute to the country’s progress and prosperity, benefiting their families and society as a whole.
He stated that the current government is making significant efforts to improve educational access across the country while promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage and traditions. Khan underscored the importance of cultural programs, which not only celebrate the teachings of Sufi saints but also steer young people toward positive and constructive paths.
“Pakistan is fortunate to have produced distinguished poets and Sufi saints from all four provinces. We must continue to promote their teachings,” the acting chairman concluded, urging increased efforts to pass these values to future generations.
