North Carolina-based poet Neil Hilborn will perform at the Robin Theatre in REO Town on Saturday, Nov. 9, in celebration of his new poetry collection, About Time. This event follows Hilborn’s previous appearance in April and marks the release of his third book.
About Time explores the challenges of maintaining mental health in the face of global crises. The collection delves into the cycle of mental illness, capturing both the progress and setbacks of recovery. According to the publisher’s description, the poems in About Time seek to find hope, love, and goodness in a world often filled with loneliness and fear, ultimately encouraging readers to find joy in small moments.
In addition to Hilborn, several Michigan-based spoken word artists will perform, including Masaki Takahashi, former Lansing Poet Laureate and founder of the Poetry Room; Detroit poets and educators Ashley Adams (Galaxy the Poet) and Robert Cohen Jr. (RJMC); and Michigan State University Poetry Club president Claire Donohoe.
Attendees are invited to bring their own beverages from Sleepwalker Spirits and Ale, located next door. Tickets are available for $21 at the Robin Theatre’s website.
