Union residents gathered on Monday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a program that included poetry, performances, speeches, and a lunch.
The event was hosted by Yvette and Reggie Anderson, founders of the MTN (Meet The Need) organization.
“We stand on the shoulders of the progress Martin Luther King Jr. and other activists have made,” said Union Mayor James Bowser. “Although Dr. King was assassinated 57 years ago, his vision for racial equality in America remains unfulfilled. It is our responsibility to continue his work and make his dream a reality for future generations.”
State Senator Joe Cryan also spoke, emphasizing the importance of service and community. “Today is a day of change and self-reflection,” he said. “We were inspired by a man who demanded change for all people.”
The program featured a poetry reading by Zekiah, performances by M.A.D.E. Star dancers, speeches from township officials, singing, and tributes to Dr. King’s enduring legacy.
