Poet Donna Kane to Headline Electric Mermaid Event in Port Alberni

Award-winning poet and author Donna Kane will be the featured speaker at this month’s Electric Mermaid spoken word event at Char’s Landing in Port Alberni. Known for her evocative poetry and nonfiction work, Kane will share her literary insights alongside other writers in an engaging evening of storytelling and verse.

Kane is a distinguished writer whose work has appeared in numerous publications. She has received the Aurora Award of Distinction: Arts and Culture and the B.C. Medal of Good Citizenship for her contributions to the arts. Her poetry collection Orrery was a finalist for the 2020 Governor General’s Literary Award, and she is also the author of Summer of the Horse (2018) and Asterisms, among other works. Kane splits her time between Rolla, B.C., and Halifax, N.S.

The event will be hosted by Derek Hanebury, providing literary guidance as Kane and a lineup of talented authors take the stage. Open mic readings will give local voices a chance to share their work, making for a lively and inspiring evening.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, with readings beginning at 6 p.m.
