In a press conference led by Chairperson Dr. Najiba Arif, the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) announced the recipients of the prestigious Kamal-e-Fun and National Literary Awards for 2024. The distinguished poet Iftikhar Arif has been chosen to receive the 2023 Kamal-e-Fun Award, recognizing his lifelong contributions to the world of literature.
Dr. Arif elaborated on the significance of the Kamal-e-Fun Award, established in 1997 by the Academy, which stands as the country’s most esteemed literary honor. The award includes a substantial cash prize of one million rupees and is presented annually to an individual who has made exceptional, lifelong contributions to the literary field.
In addition to the Kamal-e-Fun Award, the Academy recognized outstanding literary works across a range of regional languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Saraiki, Pashto, Sindhi, Brahvi, and Hindko. These accolades celebrate not only individual achievement but also emphasize the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that defines Pakistan’s literary heritage.
