Kurt Schweigman captivates audiences with his compelling and often humorous spoken word performances. His poetry draws from his urban American Indian upbringing and his current life as a Lakota in Sonoma County.
Schweigman has achieved notable success in Slam Poetry competitions, from California to Germany. His work is featured in numerous literary journals and poetry anthologies. At his upcoming events, he will present excerpts from his latest book, Confluences of Solitude (Mitote Press, 2023). This collection reflects on his upbringing in South Dakota, his travels in Baja Sur, Mexico, and his experiences in the Bay Area. Additionally, Schweigman will share poems and stories from his previous publications.
As poet Jimmy Santiago Baca describes, Schweigman’s poetry is “boisterous as rapids after rainfall, subversive and tactful, raised on fire and ice.”
