Punjabi music star AP Dhillon recently shared personal reflections on Instagram about his father’s influence on his music career. In a heartfelt post, Dhillon shared a video of his father immersed in writing poetry, accompanied by the caption, “My dad comes from a generation that thought the pursuit of your creative dreams is nothing more than a silly dream.
Dhillon’s upcoming EP, The Brownprint, is not just another release but a bold statement of artistic ambition. The singer explained that the title reflects his desire to challenge the conventions of Punjabi music. “I’m calling my EP The Brownprint because I want to show our people that there are many ways to make a Punjabi song. I want us to think bigger than what we know to be possible,” Dhillon wrote.
One of the most surprising revelations about the EP is that it includes a track featuring lyrics written by Dhillon’s father, along with a collaboration with American rapper Gunna. Dhillon expressed his amazement at this development, stating, “Did I ever think I would be releasing a song written by my dad while featuring Gunna? Hell no, that’s just a silly dream.” This unique collaboration brings together Gunna’s distinctive melodic style with Dhillon’s Punjabi vocals, creating a fusion of two musical worlds.
In addition to the collaboration with Gunna, Dhillon also announced another exciting partnership with Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayra Starr, Spotify’s most-streamed artist from Nigeria. Their track, titled Bora Bora, is expected to blend Punjabi music with the vibrant energy of Afrobeats, promising to be an infectious anthem. Dhillon teased the collaboration on Instagram by sharing artwork featuring both him and Starr.
These announcements follow the release of Old Money, the first single from The Brownprint. The track, which debuted with a high-energy video featuring Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, has already generated significant buzz.
The Brownprint is set to release on August 30 and promises to push the boundaries of Punjabi music by blending it with Afrobeats and hip-hop. This ambitious project comes after Dhillon’s earlier collaboration with British rapper Stormzy on the track Problems Over Peace and his debut performance at Coachella earlier this year.
