Srinagar, Sept 8: The 40th annual commemoration of Ahad Zargar, a revered Sufi poet from Kashmir, was at his birthplace in Narwara, Downtown Srinagar.
The event was organized by the Ahad Zargar Memorial Research Foundation (AZMRF) and attracted a prominent gathering of scholars, poets, and literary figures.
During the event, the third edition of Kuliyat Ahad Zargar—a collection of Zargar’s works—was released, along with the annual magazine Rangmaar, unveiled by Khurshid Zargar, son of the late poet.
A Mehfil-e-Samma, a Sufi musical gathering, was also arranged by the AZMRF and the Kashmir Gulokar Society. Noted folk singer Abdul Gafar Kanihami performed Zargar’s Sufi compositions, captivating the audience. Scholars at the event praised Zargar’s significant contribution to Sufi poetry, calling him a key figure in preserving the tradition of Kashmiri mysticism after pioneers like Lalla Ded and Nund Reshi.
The event honored the enduring legacy of Ahad Zargar and his profound influence on Kashmiri Sufi literature.
