A performance featuring the works of renowned Hungarian poet István Sinka is set to be staged in Arad. As part of the Arad Hungarian Days, the Arad Chamber Theater will host this event on Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Puppet Theater Hall. The Esztergom Castle Theater’s musical and poetic presentation will be performed by László Horányi, an actor from Arad and recipient of the prestigious Mari Jászai and Miklós Bánffy Awards.

István Sinka, often referred to as the voice of the “landless” millions and the chronicler of the vast plains of Bihar, delved into the lives of shepherds, horsemen, and other rural figures. His works reflect rebellion, accusation, and complaint—often resonating with the struggles of the underprivileged. But can today’s generation find meaning in his poetry? Can they comprehend the powerful, sometimes haunting voice that speaks of the hardships Sinka experienced as a boy born into poverty in Nagyszalonta, who later became a shepherd with a soul of a poet? Sinka, though rooted in a bygone era, offers a universal and timeless depth to his poetry, accessible to those who still seek a connection to the raw, emotional truths of human experience. His works speak to the sensitive souls of readers across all generations.

Born in Nagyszalonta and passing away in 1969, István Sinka rose from poverty to become a Kossuth Prize-winning poet, a significant figure in Hungarian literature. His poems, considered some of the most beautiful works of 20th-century Hungarian poetry, continue to captivate audiences.

The performance will center on Sinka’s poetry and prose, with the award-winning László Horányi bringing the works to life. As part of the Arad Hungarian Days festival, the event is free for all attendees.
