Hedy Habra, a poet, artist, and essayist, will lead a discussion during this ArtBreak event. She will read selections from her new poetry collection, Or Did You Ever See the Other Side? (Press 53, 2023). This volume features ekphrastic poems that focus on feminine themes, drawing inspiration from contemporary and surrealist women artists from various backgrounds. The poems explore women’s voices and address social and political issues.
Habra has published four poetry collections. Her work The Taste of the Earth received the Silver Nautilus Book Award, while Tea in Heliopolis won the USA Best Book Award. Under Brushstrokes was a finalist for the International Book Award. Additionally, her story collection, Flying Carpets, earned Honorable Mention for the Arab American Book Award. Habra has also written a critical book titled Mundos alternos y artísticos en Vargas Llosa. She is a twenty-one-time nominee for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net, and her multilingual work has appeared in various journals and anthologies.
