Voices of Poetry will hold a public celebration on September 26 at the Center for the Spiritual Journey in Chatham. The event will feature three poets and a musician, each bringing unique life experiences.

Stephen Kuusisto, who has been blind since birth, is known for his memoirs, including “Have Dog, Will Travel: A Poet’s Journey” (2018) and “Eavesdropping: A Memoir of Blindness and Listening” (2006). He has received acclaim from The New York Times for his powerful writing and musical ear for language. His new poetry collection, “Close Escapes,” is set to be published in April 2025.

The celebration will start at 5 p.m. at the Center for the Spiritual Journey, located at 880 Main St. (Route 28). The venue is handicapped accessible, and tickets are $10, available at the door.

Joining Kuusisto will be poets Robert Carr and Jeannette de Beauvoir, along with singer/songwriter Paul Kehoe.

Carr was the first HIV testing counselor for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and has dedicated 33 years to public health. He retired as Deputy Director for the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences. Carr is also an award-winning poet and part of Writing the Land, an initiative that connects poets with land trusts to promote preservation.

Jeannette de Beauvoir is a poet and bestselling author who lives in Provincetown. She has published over a dozen novels, including “Our Lady in the Dunes.” Her poetry has appeared in various publications, and she won the Outermost Poetry Contest national award in 2020.

Paul Kehoe has a background in education, having taught second grade in Brewster. He focuses on social and emotional learning through his music and regularly performs at local open mic nights. In 2020, he collaborated with Mary Wilson to create children’s shows for Cape Rep Theatre, titled “Puppets, Paul & Mary.”
