Dr. Juan De Urda from the Department of World Languages and Cultures at the State University of New York at Fredonia has been named a finalist for the 2024 Paz Prize for Poetry.
This award is presented by The National Poetry Series in partnership with Miami Dade College’s renowned Miami Book Fair.
The Paz Prize honors the late Nobel Prize-winning poet Octavio Paz. It recognizes a previously unpublished book-length manuscript of poetry written in Spanish by a poet living in the United States.
First awarded in 2014, this biennial prize has honored many distinguished Hispanic poets. Dr. De Urda submitted an unpublished poetry collection titled Las manos no son simétricas (Your hands are not symmetrical). This collection reflects on the challenges of seeking a fulfilling life amid constant violence and death.
