September 29: The Srujana Women Writers Forum organized a book launch and poetry review event on Saturday evening at the Mysore Association mini auditorium in Matunga East. The highlight of the event was the release of the short story collection Koranvanji, written by Dr. Dakshayini Yadahalli and published by Srujana.

During the event, poet and retired teacher Amaresh Patil shared his insights on poetry. He stated, “I may not have written many poems, but I have experienced many through listening. Such anthologies and poetry collections should flourish. Living solely through mobile phones is not ideal. Instead, we must cultivate a mindset that encourages literature. Only by reading in our mother tongue can we grasp its simplicity, essence, and taste. The influence of the mother tongue is crucial for shaping our lives.”

The program was presided over by Srujana coordinator Padmaja Mannur. Poet and teacher Dr. Durgaappa Kotiyavar reviewed the poems, noting, “Poetry does not emerge suddenly; it requires dedication. The women poets of Mumbai are driven by curiosity and actively participate in poetry, which is commendable. The Kannadiga women of Mumbai have created beautiful poetry.”

In her presidential address, Mannur reflected on a recent event that showcased women’s contributions to literature in four languages—Kannada, English, Marathi, and Hindi. She emphasized that the discussions and poetry presented align with the topics documented during those discussions.

The event featured senior writer and Rajyotsava awardee Dr. Sunitha M. Shetty, Srujana honorary secretary Latha Santosh Shetty, and treasurer Saroja Amati among the attendees.

Saroja Amati led the prayer and introduced the guests, while Padmaja Mannur welcomed the gathering. Dr. Dakshayini Yadahalli delivered the introductory address, and poet Gayathri Nagesh introduced the newly launched book. Approximately 20 women poets from the Srujana group showcased their work. Latha Santosh Shetty served as the program’s anchor, and Shobha Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
