Wolverhampton’s library service is inviting young poets to submit their work for a new competition focused on friendship. The city is searching for a Young Poet Laureate, aged 12 to 18, and a Primary Poet Champion, aged seven to 11.

Participants are encouraged to write a poem titled “Life is Better with Friends.” This competition is part of the upcoming Wolverhampton Literature Festival, scheduled for January 31 to February 2, at various venues throughout the city.

Poetry entries must be emailed by November 29. Teachers with questions can reach out to the City of Wolverhampton Council for more information.

Finalists will have the opportunity to attend an event where the winners in each age category will be announced.

Robert Johnson, the council’s head of service for community information, expressed enthusiasm for the competition. “We’re looking for Wolverhampton’s next Young Poet Laureate and Primary Poet Champion. If you’re a poet and you know it, here’s your chance to show off your talents to the whole city,” he said.
