Arlington is currently seeking candidates for its next poet laureate, a role that will follow Jean Flanagan, who has held the position since January 2023.
Applications will be accepted until January 5, 2025, with the goal of appointing the sixth poet laureate by July 1, 2025. The position includes an annual honorarium of $1,500, as stated on the town’s website.
The poet laureate serves as Arlington’s primary poetic voice and ambassador for the art form. This individual will promote poetry reading and writing in the community, enhance the literary arts, and celebrate the literary achievements of residents.
Applicants must demonstrate their accomplishments in poetry through various means, including publications in books, literary magazines, or digital media, as well as teaching or performance experience. Additionally, candidates must be residents of Arlington and at least 18 years old.
