Armand Brint will be the featured poet at a reading on Saturday, October 12, at the Willits Community Theatre Playhouse, located at 37 West Van Lane, Willits. The event will start at 7 p.m.
Brint is an accomplished poet with seven collections to his name and a book on the craft of writing poetry. He was the first Poet Laureate of Ukiah. His work has been published in anthologies, literary journals, and online platforms, and some of his poems have been recorded for radio and set to music.
He has taught poetry and creative writing at various colleges, universities, and arts programs. Additionally, Brint is a founding member of the Ukiahaiku Festival and a recipient of the Jane Reichhold International Haiku Award. His latest collection, “Songs for the Afterlife,” has just been released by Secret Goldfish Press.
In his own words, Brint describes himself as a storyteller. His poems often feature narrative elements with unexpected twists, using extended metaphors to enhance their meaning. He incorporates humor and playfulness into his work, aiming to make his poems both personal and relatable. Brint believes that a poem is not complete until it reaches a reader, and he emphasizes accessibility to welcome readers into his work. Many of his poems draw inspiration from quirky personal experiences, often set in Mendocino County.
An open reading will follow Brint’s featured presentation. Admission is by donation, with a suggested contribution of $10. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
