An evening of poetry and music featuring The Runaway Poets will take place at King House in Boyle on Thursday, October 17, 2024, starting at 7:30 PM. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to attend this unique event bringing together poets from Scotland and Ireland.

Neil Young will read from his new collection, The Song She Didn’t Sing (Seahorse Publications). This work is described as “a rogue tour through the back lanes of history,” showcasing figures from Rosa Luxemburg to Brendan Behan and William Blake.

Julie McNeill will present We Are Scottish Football (Luath), a passionate verse sequence that connects with anyone who has loved or critiqued “the beautiful game.”

Acclaimed poet Charlie Gracie will read from his collections Belfast to Bailleston, Tales from the Dartry Mountains, and Good Morning.

Local writer Jessamine O’Connor will share excerpts from her upcoming book and her recent pamphlet, The Opposite of Grieving. Her latest collection, Silver Spoon (Salmon), has been praised for addressing themes of conflict, migration, love, and loss.

Neil, Julie, and Jessamine are also editors at Drunk Muse Press, where attendees can purchase some of their publications alongside their own books.

The evening will include live traditional and folk music, followed by an open-mic session. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to sign up for the open mic.

This event is supported by the Roscommon Arts Office and King House. Admission is free.
