Poetry Hickory, a local reading series that has been active for 18 years, will host poets from the Poetry in Plain Sight program on Tuesday, November 12, at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory. The reading will start at 6:15 PM and will include an open mic session after the featured poets. The event is free and open to the public.
Poetry in Plain Sight began in Winston-Salem in 2013. It is a collaboration among the N.C. Poetry Society, the N.C. Writers’ Network, Winston-Salem Writers, and Press 53. Each month, four poems are selected and displayed on posters in visible locations throughout arts districts, bookstores, and downtown areas in 13 cities across North Carolina. In Hickory, the monthly posters can be found at Taste Full Beans, the Hickory Community Theater, the Hickory Wine Shoppe, and the Patrick Beaver Library.
The featured readers at the Hickory event will include David Poston from Gastonia, who is an award-winning author of three poetry collections; Joseph Mills from Winston-Salem, a Distinguished Professor at the N.C. School of the Arts and author of six poetry collections; Steve Cushman from Greensboro, who has written four novels and two poetry collections; and Dave Russo, an author, editor, and founding member of The Haiku Foundation.
