Poetry Podia with Aisha Rivera

Aisha Rivera

Join Napa County’s Poet Laureate, Aisha Rivera, for an afternoon of poetry at the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art on Saturday, November 9.

This special event features Rivera and local youth who have participated in workshops with the Boys and Girls Club of Napa Valley. During these workshops, Rivera guided teens in writing poetry inspired by recent electoral results. The young writers will present their work in Nathan Lynch’s installation of ceramic podiums titled We Are Speaking, providing a platform for their voices to be heard.

Aisha Rivera is an artist, writer, actor, and advocate based in California. They have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Theatre Arts from California State University, Fullerton, and serve as the Napa County Poet Laureate for the 2023-2025 term. Rivera draws inspiration from their experiences as a non-binary Mexican-American, crafting impactful poems, plays, and illustrations. Their poetry has been featured in the bilingual anthology Poetics without Borders/Poeticas Sin Fronteras and in Latinas: Gender, Race & Class—Struggles in 21st Century USA, Vol 2. Rivera aims to create art that resonates with contemporary issues, believing poetry can illuminate important topics and evoke emotional responses.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 9, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for general admission. Admission is free for teachers, faculty, educational staff, members, and children under five. The ticket includes gallery admission.
